The company P. H. PETERSEN located in Lundsgaard, in the north of Germany, was founded in 1931 by Peter Hartwig Petersen. This middle-sized family company has been managed since 1974 by A. Sören Petersen.

Its initial success came from Swede and Fodder Kale varieties. From the middle of the 50's the breeding of Catch Crops and Fodder Plants became the major programme.

Since 1971 the company is a member of the SAATEN-UNION, which is the organisation for marketing and distribution.

In 1980 the worldwide first nematode resistant variety, the oil radish NEMEX, was listed and a short time after the nematode resistant white mustard MAXI was also listed. The company P. H. Petersen became a pioneer in the area of biological nematode control.

In 1996 the Oil radish COLONEL was listed with the highest level in the nematode resistance with the character "1". It is the first variety to give a nematode reduction of more than 90 percent.

Apart from improvement of the effect against Heterodera schachtii the breeding of resistance against other species of nematodes, such as Meloidogyne is also an important programme.
